This was my first attempt at drawing Sailor Moon realistically back in 2010. My main goal was to make her appearance seem Asian as opposed to Caucasian since Usagi Tsukino is actually Japanese and not American or European. I see a lot of artists make that mistake and it always bothered me. I've learned a lot about anatomy since this was posted and I am trying to do more realistic style figure drawings.

I like how her arms are up and folded behind her
I like how her head is tilted

Thank you thank you. It's interesting to see Asian shaped eyes colored blue, isn't it?

yep. but anyway, nowadays, with some special contact lenses, anyone can have blue eyes.

Your art is nice.

I actually made up a character for her named Kamen man A while back. His profile is in my gallery. Care to check it out?

This looks really cool! My only suggestion would be adding in something to show where the collarbone is. :) Other than that, it's awesome!

Oh you're so right. Normally i define the collar bone. huh. I wonder why it totally slipped my mind. XD I'll try to get around to fixing that, thanks for telling me.

Is she wearing blue eyeliner or something, too? Whatever it is you did around those eyes, it looks fantastic!! <3

Thanks

I actually bothered to color my lineart this time. I just colored the lines around the whole eye area a dark blue. I gave her a little makeup too, as I do most of my girls. : 3

I think blue eyes are the hardest to get right, but end up looking the prettiest in the end.

Good job *_* .
She looks suitably Asian and her face is pretty realistic and 3D , also thanks to highlight work.
I am a bit unsure about the arms though. I thought they were aligned with her body or slightly behind her head, but I couldn't decide.
I checked the ref pic and indeed the arms positions/bending angle and the shoulders joint are a bit tricky to render on paper because of the .. (argh, what's the English word for it >.<?) foreshortening, especially in her left arm: in the ref pic the elbow is coming forward a bit.
But it's a good fanart overall and the colour palette works well, very balanced.

Btw, for me the best anime seasons are S, C, and the brigde between the end of SS and the beginning of Stars (basically, the flashback about Mamoru among the Elysion/Golden Kingdom ruins being the King of Earth and the Neherenia-is-back miniarc) . I would have liked the R season much more if the animation wasn't so abismally bad and uneven so often :/ .

Yeah, I chose a pretty hard pose with the arms. i knew it was probably a bad idea, but i wanted to do something I've never really done for the challenge. I actually changed the length of her arms from the reference picture several times, to even things out. It looked really weird at first, even though my sketch was accurate.

I did like the usako/mamoru drama with his flashbacks. It was pretty intense.

Nehelenia coming back was pretty interesting too, but only 'cause you got to see Saturn grow up overnight. Actually, Nehelenia is one of my favorite characters, and I've debated drawing her as a senshi for quite some time. :p

It's good to go for challenging poses, and also fun when you figure them out ;).
For me a big improvements on these was when I started taking nude classes in Fine Arts post-high school. Photos are invaluable, but having a 3D ref right within your reach and watchable from basically every angle does help a lot. Does your art school allow models for drawing classes :> ?
---

The U&M drama took up a good chunk of the manga SS arc and I LOVED it. Ditto on the Elysion backstory.
In the anime the biggest Usako&Mamo drama happened in the R season instead . Breakup episode, oh how you affected me back then (it was excellently drawn too :D, one of the very best . And the piano BGM when Usa cries in the phone cabin... very emotional piece. Pity they never published it in any of the gazillion SM music compilation they've made. ).

*plotbunnies&fanfiction corner*
In my personal universe Nehelenia was The Moon Queen co-monarch on the moon and guarded the star seeds of the Solar system people waiting to be reborn, sleeping in the dark side of the Moon :D. And in the future she gets reincarnated as one of Pluto and Saffir's children (in a way she could become a Senshi in the future XD).

I'd be very curious to see your Senshi costume design for her :> .

Pixia is this Japanese painting program that has been rated 9/10. You get to blend in things, have it in layers, but the best part is IT'S FREE
