Summary:

Senshi Team
I don't know if i'm the only one who feels this way but... NONE of the current templates people are using for their Sailor Senshi OCs seem to work for me! All of my characters are created with an emphasis on their supernatural abilities and fighting styles. Most of the time, their universe and the overall story i've written has more of an impact on them than their personal likes and dislikes. There's a lot more to them than their favorite food or what they do in school, etc.

So I decided to make a new template, free for anyone who wants a nice write up for their Sailor Moon OC. It's based off of several different guides to character writing but specifically geared towards the development of Sailor Senshi. However, you could adapt the template to any character with super powers that you have.

Further Explanation

If you don't understand what you're supposed to write in some of the fields above consult this list.

Species:
People on Earth are typically called "homo sapiens" or "human". If your character is not human, partially human, animal, robotic, or some other kind of race entirely, what are they? What are they called?

Nationality:
The country or city your character is from. For example, if you were writing about Usagi Tsukino, you would list her nationality as "Japanese".

Ethnicity
The racial background of your character. This might not be the same as their nationality. For instance, your character might be technically an American citizen but ethnically still have strong family ties in African, European, Hispanic or Native American culture. In the Sailor Moon universe the idea of heritage could expand out to a universal scale. Maybe your senshi is partially descended from the Moon Kingdom and partially from Kinmoku? The possibilities are endless.

Markings:
List any tattoos, scars, birthmarks, planetary symbol or other unique marking features your character has.

Physical Description:
Talk about your characters overall look and how other people perceive their physical image. Think about their build, stance, demeanor, etc. This is your area to talk about anything else that might be important that you didn't just list.

Personality - Sexuality:
Discuss gender identity, any romantic relationships this character may have, how they behave and view themselves sexually. Are they heterosexual, LGBT, or something else entirely?

Powers - Other Abilities:
Does your character have any other natural talents that you need to explain? This can be a species trait if they are not from earth or it can be a special power unique to them that otherwise would not be considered an attack.

Story - Setting:
The planet, time and place your character's story is located in. Explain how it fits (if it does at all) into the Sailor Moon canon timeline.

Story - Senshi Team:
List your character's allies. This can be specific senshi or a group. You can also link other profiles you have written or post thumbnails of other drawings you have of them.

What does "henshin" mean?
It is a romanization of the Japanese word 変身 which translates to "transformation" in English. It is used in mostly in anime, manga and Tokusatsu live action shows where the main character transforms into their superhero alter ego.

Any other questions? Just ask me about it. :3

Ooo this is great. Not only for senshis either. But it always left me a bit miffed when likes/dislikes were in the description because it's a childish thing to write about a character and often leaves them two dimensional.

Thanks for making this. Maybe I can finally create a senshi I like. :)

Awww you have good senshi. :3 You just have to decide how this anime fan based stuff fits into your portfolio, I think.

Writing is working wonders for my creativity so I hope you can find some use for this in your spare time too. I'm sure you have a great fanfic story.

That's true. I've always been bad at coming up with fandom characters in general, probably because the universe is established and I don't think I can create anything new from it.

I've created my own characters hehe but when it comes to fandom I just get stuck. With SM though I just like the look and elemental aspect, so I never outgrew that. :)

I'm really more interested in character design but I get stuck on the world building because I overthink it or think it's too cliche hehe.

Yes - When I post senshi, I post some detail about themselves but most of the description is their backstory and life. Likes and dislikes... who cares? All that can be inferred from their history and life story - I like to DEVELOP characters, not just slap a few words on them and call it a day.

I think the thing that annoys me about 'likes' and 'dislikes' is that typically people mention trivial stuff. I've noticed a trend where half the otaku senshi out there love some sort of candy and 'hates bullies' something to that effect. It leaves me wondering, who DOESN'T like / hate that stuff. I feel like it's the equivalent of saying "I like breathing" "I like being alive." because it doesn't really say anything at all.

I think they can be written well, just if people start using them to further hint at the characters strengths and weaknesses. If they dislike something, maybe they are afraid of it and maybe this explains their biggest flaws / needs / motivations.

But half the time we get "I hate homework." and "I hate evil".

lol.

I know. I put zero effort into them simply because I find it pointless when you can just write about your character and their strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes will all be revealed that way. And I mean I put NO effort into likes/dislikes lol

I know how you feel, I need it too. My characters have all really inconsistant info posted here and there because of the various contests i've been doing and it's all unsettling. Just a warning, I might alter this template a little bit here and there. I am putting it to practice with Sailor Sun so if something's not working well I might revise things.

Right now I'm toying with the idea of listing things rather than writing paragraphs. So many clubs insist on paragraph form, but I feel like maybe listing is more effective at getting more information across even if it doesn't sound quite as elegant. What do you think?
