This is a re-upload of a deviation I submitted in 2007, formally known as "Health Sins" (14x20 in)
The girl in the painting is contemplating her life, coming to the realization that many of the things she's done, without any thought or hesitation have led her down the path of self destruction. Broken spirited. Admitting the truth. Unable to live in ignorance any longer. I was lucky enough to display this at the 'Faith Alive' art and music show sponsored by my college. It was created using gouache paint, cut paper, ball point pen, colored pencil and a splatter technique with a toothbrush. If anyone is interested, I still have the original painting and am willing to part with it for a price.
Oh wow, I hadn't seen this before! I must say I absolutely love the shadows in this, the pose, the expression and the whole composition itself. The details are also quite interesting. Very creative artwork as well! I know this isn't new but really, congratulations!
I almost thought the little pieces of paper on the right side was pieces of mirror. It gives off a really interesting look! I've always wanted to try gouache and this makes me want to try it more! I really like the color palette on this
Gouache is wonderful. It's like watercolor but slightly more solid, less opaque. Try to get a cheap set with small tubes. I absolutely recommend it. You don't need much paint and you can reuse the same palettes without fear of it drying because like watercolors you can easily rehydrate it again. I work mostly digitally now, but should I ever feel the need to paint by hand again, you can bet it will still be gouache. Amazing medium. Good luck with your art and thanks for you comment.
